Pakistan cricket is now under the spotlight again, and this time, the reasons are not so good. Like before, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has dealt the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) harsh punishments because of the ongoing Asia Cup and the incidents occurring.
The ICC hit back hard, slapping the PCB with multiple rule violations. The penalties include fines, warnings of stricter punishment in future events and closer monitoring of the board. For Pakistan Cricket this is a bad time as the team is already struggling with inconsistent performances and pressure from back home.
What makes this worse is how it affects Pakistan Cricket’s image globally. The PCB has been in the news for administrative issues but delaying a match in a big tournament has raised questions of professionalism and discipline. For the players the focus is back on the field but the shadow of these penalties will linger for some time.
Looking ahead the PCB will have to rebuild trust with the ICC and manage better in high pressure tournaments. For the fans it’s a frustrating chapter as off field issues once again take the shine off the game.
